rating: 4 of 5 stars In a world where you’re surrounded by beauty, nothing is beautiful... These words mean little in the beginning of Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. From Tally's point of view, New Pretty Town is the most beautiful place in the world. She wants nothing more than to become like her friend Paris who just underwent the operation a few months prior to her. With all her friends gone, lonely Tally Youngblood gets mixed up in a runaways plan for freedom that very few realize actually saves peoples lives from becoming just like another brick in the wall.
Scott Westerfeld does an amazing job at portraying the young characters as they grow threw the book. As time goes by, the characters actually grow, mentally, physically, and emotionally. As in his other books, the characters are pretty easy to relate to. Only other then the people of our times, these people have much more responsibility then the rest of our worlds people.
